FAQ'S
Not everyone has a relative or friend who is able or willing to be the MC. Even if they do agree, they’re not always the best person for the job. The MC role is pivotal to the smooth running of your event and is a big responsibility. You’ve invested a lot of money into having your event perfect and a professional MC has the experience to make sure that it flows and finishes on time – saving you overtime costs from the venue. The professional MC is also skilled in ‘crowd management’ towards the end of the event when alcohol has been consumed. A friend or family member may not be comfortable telling guests that the bar is closed or that they might be a little too rowdy. Hint: Talk to an event planner or Special Occasion Speeches about the benefits of using a professional MC and then you can make a decision.
Has this answer been helpful? Y 6 / N 4Absolutely not. Even professional speakers use notes. The only thing we’d recommend is that you either use small cards so that they aren’t so noticeable or find somewhere to put the paper down. If you are holding a big piece of paper and have even slightly shaky hands from adrenalin it will show. Using smaller cards prevents this. Hint: remember to number the cards just in case you drop them and they end up out of order
Has this answer been helpful? Y 2 / N 1Absolutely not! In fact, we advise people not to try to memorise the speech word for word. If you do this and then miss a word or a sentence when you’re giving the speech your brain may just panic and you’ll end up completely lost. Instead, memorise key points that you want to make and the order in which you want to make them. Hint: Make the speech into a flowing story and it will be much easier to remember.
Has this answer been helpful? Y 1 / N 1Believe it or not, you can practice a speech too much. If it is too practiced it can sound forced and unnatural. You are aiming for a natural sounding you talking about something you are passionate about. The rule of thumb is that you practice it often enough that you can remember the key points and are relaxed. This might be 6 times, it might be 20 times. It’s all about how comfortable you are with the speech. Hint: practice in front of a full length mirror so that you can see what the audience will see.
